I’m thinking about a 2004 conversation I had with a liberal acquaintance. He told me he was voting for John Kerry…no real surprise. But, he assured me. It wasn’t because Kerry was the Democrat. No, the tipping factor, he claimed, was that Bush had allowed the unemployment rate to rise to the unacceptable level of 5.3%.

I wonder if he remembers that conversation. And, if he does, how he’ll justify the vote he is sure to cast in November.
